This month has been specially designated as National Eye Exam Month, in which we take a moment to spread awareness about the importance of routine eye exams. From age 4 and up, people benefit from these routine checkups.
Our experienced eye doctors evaluate all aspects of eye health and vision during these exams, which serve as a way to prevent, diagnose, and/or treat the following issues and others :
- Nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism
- Glaucoma
- Cataracts
- Age-related macular degeneration
- Dry eye syndrome
- Diabetic retinopathy
These routine exams are a really important part of your health and overall wellness. First of all, treatment is often most effective in the early stages of certain eye diseases, and these exams are the opportunity for our doctors to look for those early signs. Not only that, but we may be able to help you prevent certain eye diseases from developing in the first place.
If you have already been diagnosed with an eye condition, then your routine exams and check-ups with our ophthalmologists are an important part of treatment. The eye doctor monitors the disease and provides you with up-to-date treatment recommendations.
Perhaps obviously, eye exams are crucial to helping you see well. Did you know that many people are in need of a prescription and don’t even realize it? It’s possible you haven’t had an eye exam in years, and to you, your vision seems normal. But if you experience frequent headaches, find yourself squinting at text, or generally wish you could see better, then you may need a prescription for glasses or contact lenses. Your eye exam will catch this issue.
Children should get routine eye exams starting at about the age of 4. When a child needs glasses, getting the right prescription can support their performance in school, helping them read and concentrate better. Our eye doctors have extensive experience helping children see clearly.
